Regions in Argentina show important differences in their population structure and the retribution to certain factors. This paper studies how these differences affect the income distribution and poverty by applying decomposition techniques. These methods allow quantification of the contribution of each of the determinants of income to these differences. The findings suggest large heterogeneities between regions, with the bulk of the changes in poverty and inequality due to changing returns to education, the gender wage gap and different employment levels.
